MIQUETTE LOOKS OUTSIDE THE BOX – TO FIND A NEW BEAUTY IN THE WORLD.

Standard

A recent publication of the latest ROCKLEY RECOGNITION asked the question of Miquette why she chose the subject of the sunflower to which she replied;
rgs15sbm278mvdrec4 The reason that I chose to take a picture of the sunflower with missing leaves is to show that there are still imperfections in beauty and that many things in this world have their strengths and their weakness. I chose this sunflower because it displays that perfectly. With 2 of its petals it shows that even something as beautiful as a sunflower has its imperfections. There is still beauty in imperfection you just have to look hard for it!

She then followed this by saying what she felt from being part of the FOCUS  FORCE KWC ROCKLEY FLOWER FOTO PROJECT at this year’s MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW.

” allowed me to think outside the box which has really helped me in school and it has also let me see the world in a different way for instance I now look closely at the world and see the many perfections and imperfections in BEAUTY”.

Madeleine’s BIG day in the BIG apple.

Standard

In New York, and the US it is Thursday August 28 – one day behind Australia. For Madeleine Puli and her family, it doesn’t matter what the date is. For her as FOCUS FORCE FRIENDSHIP AMBASSADOR she has two important appointments to keep. First it will be the SCHOOL of the BLESSED SACRAMENT where she will meet and discuss her viti to the city with the Principal, deputy and teachers. This will include presenting the Principal and school with a letter from her Principal Denise Mugavin of St. Augustine’s in Keilor, Melbourne inviting the school to send a reciprocal FRIENDSHIP EXHIBITION to Australia with photos taken of the city by the students there. Then she will present the school with the book of SUPER SHOTS selected for the  MELBOURNE – CITY of CONTRASTS foto project. Later in the day she then have the thrill of visiting the Australian Consulate  where she will formally meet the Australian Deputy Consul General, Natalie Roche and present her with a copy of the book. The book contains the Super Shot works Of Madeleine, Jourdan Kotevski, Matthew Bory and Neave Leyden.

For MADELEINE it has been a traumatic time for her in New York having spend several days in hospital after having her appendix removed. It would have been a harrowing time for the whole family, but now she is out and back on track to complete the last of her days there. Today, she will also top it off by a visit to the Australian Consulate where she will formally meet the Australian Consul General; the Hon Nick Minchin. She will also present a copy of the book to him, and then oversee his CHOICE of the 3 SUPER SHOTS of West Australia’s Wave Rock. The images taken 3  weeks ago commemorate another image in 1964 taking out the grand prize at the New York Photographic Fair – 50 years ago this year. These were taken by Hyden PS students; Benjamin Cosh, Ingrid Tipton and Amberleigh Hendry.

MIQUETTE LEAVES NOTHING TO YOUR IMAGINATION WITH HER ROCKLEY COLLECTION FOR ’15.

Standard

AUGUST as promised brings more ROCKLEY RECOGNITIONS for the ROCKLEY FLOWER FOTO EXHIBITION at next year’s MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW. A memorable bouquet of flower foto images is being picked for what is planned to be the grandest display in many years. You will be amazed and delighted just as will be by this collection from a young girl with a camera looking for the best. Come on get behind Miquette with a POST of PRAISE.rgs15sbm277mvd3

MVD278.A new season is proclaimed with a changing of the guard in this photo by Miquette portraying a mosaic bold and contrasting subtle color blending of leaves,  as summer leaves and autumn shows its pretty ambience. A good one to start a POST of PRAISE with.

rgs15sbm278mvdrec4

MVD278. What looks to be a sunflower is missing petals at 7 and 8 o clock. Normally, not a good CHOICE, but then when you construct a story to go with the image, it takes on a totally different meaning. Question is; Why did Miquette choose this one> what do you think?

rgs15sbm275mvdFl1MdV275.Branding a flower with it’s own “watermark” is always a clever photographic effect that captures the imagination. Here, Miquette uses it to it’s full effect contrasting light and colour to bring out the best in the bloom. This entered in the FLEUR Category.

rgs15sbm280mvdtony6

MVD280 Long time judge for the ROCKLEY AWARDS over a number of years Tony Periakos will have his job cut in 2015, as will the panel of others who will be making Category CHOICES. This TONY aspirant has the tree out of focus so as to highlight the flower in the frame. Perfect in so many ways.

rgs15sbm276mvdot276

MvD276.A delightful composition with soft pasteled rose as it’s subject feature makes this a perfect selection to go into the OITHONIA collection CHOICES. A worthy contender, and certainly worthy of a POST of PRAISE.

rgs15sbm279mvdrck5

MvD279. For her final submission for the 2015 ROCKLEY FLOWER FOTO EXHIBITION & AWARDS puts this one forward that takes your breath away, and hopefully for Miquette the chance to snare one of the categories. We wish Miquette well in the final CHOICES, as we do all the other FFKWC submitters. Now finish it off with a POST of PRAISE.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD A COMMENT ABOUT MIQUETTE’S SUPER SHOT SUBMISSIONS or just POST A PRAISE to make her day? Whichever, you are welcome to do it here by entering in the comments section below, and send it direct to FOCUS FORCE Kids With Cameras. For each POST Of PRAISE made before 11.00 am Monday they will earn 50 reward points. Also if you would like to know more about the program, and perhaps register a Kids With Camera child, you are welcome to use it for that too.

HOW TO POST A PRAISE; Choose the SUPER SHOT submission you like most. Go to bottom here, and click on “leave a comment” then  nominating the Kids With Cameras name, and the image number in the post. Then add a few words of praise to encourage them. It’s that easy.

FLYING VISIT TO WEST AUSTRALIA STARTS BRINGING RESULTS FROM HYDEN PS FOCUS FORCE KWC.

Standard

This starts a series of publications over the coming months explaining and telling you the latest of happenings with this project which will see a grand display of works selected as SUPER SHOTS as part of the FOCUS FORCE KWC ROCKLEY FLOWER FOTO EXHIBITION at the 2015 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW; the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The students of Hyden State School are to be admire for their involvement and commitment. Principal Felicity Sinclair is to be thanked for accepting the invitation to host the program, and the staff who helped and embraced it, adding to its success. DSCN1786

WITHIN AN HOUR of arriving in Hyden, FOCUS FORCE foto program had swung into action with the first of a series of workshops being presented to the students of the school in years 3 and 4. This was the first of two plus the traditional foto excursion, this time looking for SUPER SHOTS of their wildflowers to be included in a major display as part of the 2015 FOCUS FORCE Kids With Cameras ROCKLEY FLOWER FOTO EXHIBITION & AWARDS at the MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW.

The next morning, the program continued returning to the class for the second workshop, and then the same happening with the 5-6-7’s. It was full on for the morning having limited time to present and complete the program. LIONS CLUB Volunteer and representative Peter was the culprit who climbed the fence to retrieve wildflowers. Proving the old adage that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. DSCN1791 It has be said that the older KWC did the same thing the next day. But on reflection it is to be noted that they walked between the wheat plants, being careful not to step on any. It just goes to show how they understand and respect the importance of the crops to their livelihood and survival. DSCN1805

Following 3 hours of talking and presenting  ideas, DSCN1808the 3-4’s were the first to head out in search of their  quarry. And they didn’t waste any time in getting down to business with cameras soon clicking constantly as they found potential images with their viewfinders. DSCN1815The metal sculptures are  a work of love by the local community telling the story of the town’s history and personalities. For the FOCUS FORCE HYDEN PS Kids With  they became a point of inspiration after they added flowers to their chosen subject.

DSCN1810 The Kids With Cameras took to the task with exuberant enthusiasm working for over two hours including through recess when the call was made to return to school and wrap up their effort. Thankfully, teachers can’t help themselves and that’s a bonus, soon get into the swing of the projects working with the Kids With Cameras some inspiring ideas to help them through the process. It is an input that is gratefully acknowledged by FOCUS FORCE. DSCN1811Can you spot the FOCUS FORCE KWC who went out on a limb to find his SUPER SHOTS.

DSCN1813

DSCN1817   Time rushed by again, and a final wrap up shoot was held focusing DSCN1818 on the old and retired WAVE ROCK  bus which once toured the district. It was a part of the town’s history and was an ideal subject, especially with the Kids With Cameras doing their best to decorate it with   flowers.

DSCN1800Wednesday late afternoon saw the small group of FOCUS FORCE KWC visit WAVE ROCK in what was to become an international gesture of goodwill and friendship. The 4 were looking for SUPER SHOTS to commemorate the delivery of a photo of the icon that took out an award at the New York Photographic Fair. 3 of them have a photograph of the rock being delivered to the Big Apple next week. Sweet success for them!

The program was completed just before lunch, two days after its commencement. Local Councilor Steve Jones representing the Mayor was on hand to congratulate and wish the children luck in their search for SUPER SHOTS. Now we wait for the results to come including a CHOICE AWARD to be made by Steve, and another by Sheenagh Collins on behalf of the HYDEN TOURIST COMPANY. Along with others to be announced.

CATCH WAVE ROCK AS IT GOES CHASING MOON BEAMS.

Standard

LATE AFTERNOON; EARLY EVENING, and as the sun leaves the day in it’s shadow slipping below the skies of the West Australian horizon, the  moon rises high above Wave Rock. Amberleigh aimed high, and got her just reward in this image.

Wave Rock with the MoonThe moon remains only a speck in the sky, looks to be “hangin 5 with her toes on the nose” as it rides the crest of the wave. This long shot by Amberleigh, and those previously by Benjamin and Ingrid from the angle taken show the majesty of the mighty monolith dating back over 20 million years. With the sun sinking casting shadows adds to the dramatic effect of the images, and emphasizes the veins of the rock. Well in the tradition of the winning image all those years ago. This too, is being sent to New York to commemorate the event. Well done to all three.

FOOTNOTE’. A week later, the moon was full and bright – imagine that image. Perhaps we will see it in the months to come.
